In 2018 I visited the Amber Museum, Gdansk and was enchanted by the Faberge amber egg on display, it was only later that I researched this amazing story.
One of the leading personalities in the world of Baltic Amber is Mrs Ewa Rachon, the Director of Amberif (the largest Amber trade show in the world, hosted in Gdansk every March), since 1994, plus the Director of Ambermart since 2000. Rachon had the desire for the city of Gdansk to have it’s own Faberge egg made of amber and began this journey by contacting Victor Mayer, who has the world exclusivity to manufacture and design Faberge eggs and jewellery. As luck would have it, the wife of the CEO of the company, Heidrun Mohr-Mayer, was born in Gdansk (then named Danzig), and was delighted to approve the project. The Faberge Amber egg was donated to Gdansk in 2000 and can be seen at the Amber Museum.
The total weight is 213.48g of which the amber is 76g
