In 2018 I visited the Amber Museum, Gdansk and was enchanted by this Faberge Amber egg. It would only be much later that I learned about it’s fascinating story.
One of the leading personalities in the world of Baltic Amber is Ewa Rachon, the Director for Amberif since 1994 (the largest Amber trade fair in the world, hosted in Gdansk in March annually), plus the Director for Ambermart since 2000. Rachon had the idea for the city of Gdansk to have it’s very own Faberge egg, made of amber. Although many thought this would be difficult to achieve, Rachon started by contacting Victor Mayer, who had the world exclusivity on the manufacture and design of Faberge eggs and jewellery. Mayer approached the CEO of the company and has luck would have it, his wife, Heidrun Mohr-Mayer was born in Gdansk (then called Danzig) and was delighted to approve the project. Mrs Mohr-Mayer gifted the Faberge Amber egg to Gdansk in 2000, and today you can see it at the Amber Museum, Gdansk.
The total weight is 213.48g of which 76g is amber.
